How the Ocean Kisses the Earth

A Poem

“There’s nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline, no matter how many times it’s sent away.” ~Sarah Kay

I love how the ocean kisses the earth.

A cacophony of gentleness and wildness with its ebb and flow.

I like how the earth accepts the ocean into her gentle frame.

The dynamics of recoil and rebound.

They join together into this dance.

Synchronous and steady, yet unceasing.

No one knows where one begins and the other one ends.

Boundaries dissolve.

Limits unfounded.

Yet the fluidity against and towards each other is unwavering.

I love how when the ocean rolls back, it leaves in its trail beautiful and colorful jewels of beauty for the earth to behold.

Just long enough until the water rolls over to obscure the jewels only to hug the land back.

And the earth never denounced. She never holds the ocean back. She lets it be.

Knowing that only through its vacillating motion can they both feel free.

This moment when the moon is in opposition to the sun,

Despite the unsettling waves that the moon held on the abiding ocean,

The earth sets off its shadow, apparently threatening how it can take off its light

Fighting for the unending touch of the ocean

For them to feel each other, yet again.

I yearn for that love.

Limitless.

Boundless.

An eternal dance between two vast entities.

Ever giving.

Ever receiving.

Unyielding.

Undying.
